We apologize for any inconvenience

Dear World,

The  United States of America , your quality supplier of ideals of liberty and democracy, would like to apologize for its 2001-2008 service outage.

The technical fault that led to this eight-year service interruption has been located, and the parts responsible for it were replaced Tuesday night, November 4. Early tests of the newly- installed equipment indicate that it is functioning correctly, and we expect it to be fully functional by mid-January.

We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the outage, and we look forward to resuming full service --- and hopefully even to improving it in years to come.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Prop 8 backers want to hide donors' info

"Backers of Proposition 8 have filed a lawsuit in an attempt to avoid disclosing information about their donors, charging that people who contributed to the Yes on 8 campaign have been subjected to harassment, intimidation, and even death threats."

Whatever... wasn't that the idea behind Prop 8?

New look

To help the friendfeed blend, let's try white background and postmodern typefaces.

Reflection

Watching the film, "Before Sunset" strikes the nerve that connects the mind to the heart. For 80 minutes, the characters chat through Parisian streets, cafe, and the Seine river, pulling the rope between between concepts: romanticism vs. cynicism; superficially smiley Americans vs. serious French grumps; pleasure vs. conceding to American puritanical duty.

In our youth, we start on one end of the spectrum, and time and experience push us towards the other end. We begin with wild ideas of romance, but we become jaded and mechanical over time. The film suggests that when romance is suppressed, it continues to gnaw the soul.

This concept challenges my personal solution: living in happiness through reduction of desires. My outlook is not quite the puritanical solution; because I still enjoy pleasures.

This happy Christmas is not a romantic ideal. There are no gifts, no duties, no relatives. It is a day off work, fresh air after the rains, warm shelter, and easily accessible food from an agricultural and retail system.

However, over the past week, I have been reflecting beyond happiness, recalling the rich moments that punctuate it. The film suggests that romantic moments--even as brief as one-night-stands--have lasting impact. I have been rewinding my memory, pausing on those brief moments of intense connection--even with nameless strangers--or a glance and smile that lasts seconds. I never before realized the value of those moments. Those connections--and each one is thread differently--should be savored.

Friendfeed

Lately, Friendfeed has been quite successful in collecting my lifestream from various sources: flickr, delicious, netflix, youTube, twitter, and the original blogger blog. Therefore, the original digiTofu blog is now only one of many feed sources. As a result, my RSS URL has changed. It is now http://friendfeed.com/digitofu?format=atom

Election night parties

I wish I were in Chicago tomorrow night, but hopefully, people take to the streets in SF and party/protest. I'll be watching the results at the TV screens at the gym, and then heading over to the party at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. I am too tired to be giddy with excitement, as we all should be. This the most interesting--and promising--election of my life.

Homeowners go greener with do-it-yourself jobs

The Japanese have been conservational like this forever. Although I live in an apt., I have spent the last spring and summer reducing my water usage. I no longer run the shower when I am lathering. In fact, I no longer shower in the AM (since I shower in the PM at the gym)--just washing my hair and shaving "offline" instead. Of course, I'm not sure if this will work in the winter, since warm showers also have a heating function.

I've been flushing the toilet less, which is possible to hide because I have a yellow toilet at home. And some urinals, like the one at the gym, hide the fact that I don't flush.

How to Present Yourself Powerfully

I've eliminated blogging as a way to streamline my life. Plus, there are no readers out there. But this lifehacker tip recommends blogging as a productive way to practice expression. Hmm, good point. Perhaps there is still room for an occassional thought broadcast to myself.
